Alexandra Ashcroft had nearly a million TikTok followers as ‘Alex Reads Tarot’ — until she met Jesus. Her dramatic conversion has gone viral and sparked fierce debate. It’s all part of a wider trend of former witches and tarot readers turning to Christ, says Laura Maxwell
The internet has been buzzing with the surprising conversion of ‘Alex Reads Tarot.’
With almost one million followers, Alexandra Ashcroft was one of TikTok’s most influential tarot creators. The young Scottish witch was even referenced in a Hayley Williams song. Her transformation has shocked both New Age and Christian communities.
The announcement video that she now follows Jesus, has deleted her occult content and ended her lucrative psychic‑reading business quickly went viral, reaching over 60 million viewers.
Weeks on, the reaction and global debate remains intense. But it’s also inspiring many other witches and tarot readers to look into the claims of Christ. We must pray that many more receive Christ and renounce the occult.
Alex’s new TikTok account, ‘alexcourageinchrist’, focuses on sharing the love of Jesus and inviting people into a relationship with God. She warns of witchcraft’s spiritual dangers, not from condemnation, but from concern - explaining Jesus opened her eyes to the truth of the spiritual world:

Her new followers include Christians, many like myself are former New Agers whose stories resemble hers, along with witches from her previous audience, curious about her new journey with Jesus.
The Occult community has largely expressed disappointment or confusion. Some worry she’s joined a cult or is suffering from religious psychosis, while others feel triggered by past church abuse. Sadly, many misunderstand Jesus, believing He is a medium, or alien. As a former New Ager myself, I empathise. I once believed Christians were delusional and Jesus was extraterrestrial.
Why Witchcraft Is Dangerous
New Agers, and even some Christians, claim the Occult is harmless. Scripture (Deuteronomy 18:9–13) and testimonies from former practitioners prove otherwise.
Alex entered New Age at school aged twelve, through astrology, and began reading tarot aged 13. Those practising tarot normally also engage in astrology, meditation, yoga, reiki, and spirit communication - activities listed in Occult encyclopaedias. Many energy healers and tarot readers unknowingly channel demons, believing they’re communicating with dead ancestors, angels, alien guides, goddesses and so on.
Scripture warns such practices are empowered by evil spirits, not spiritual gifts. Paul cast a divination-spirit out of a fortune‑teller, who immediately lost her psychic abilities, (Acts 16:16). Galatians 1:8 warns that fallen angels preach false gospels, while 2 Corinthians 11:14 states even Satan disguises himself as an angel of light.
Demons often masquerade as aliens, ghosts, or spirit-guides, teaching us God didn’t create Earth and Jesus isn’t the Saviour. Leviticus 19:31 warns these demonic practices defile those involved. Instead, believers encourage people to seek guidance from the Holy Spirit alone, after receiving Jesus as their Saviour.
A growing trend
Recent surveys reveal occult practices are now widespread. The Evangelical Alliance reported, “WitchTok may be as popular as Alpha,” suggesting occult content on just TikTok alone, rivals Christian outreach programs. It is likely your loved ones have encountered the occult.
Billy Graham Center’s research shows half of Gen Z leaving church, with many citing disillusionment with President Trump, yet they also say their spiritual hunger is growing. During ‘deconstruction,’ many Christians shift into New Age and Witchcraft - today’s fastest‑growing spiritualities.
And yet there is great hope. Alex’s conversion reminds me of other high‑profile testimonies in recent years - former New Age authors Steven Bancarz and Doreen Virtue. Doreen, once the world’s top New Age teacher created angel and tarot decks. Their famous testimonies initiated an exodus from Witchcraft and New Age worldwide.
When speaking with New Agers, it’s vital that we share truth with gentleness and respect. God’s kindness leads to repentance. Most believe Jesus was a medium or alien, so mentioning His divine identity and evidence as a true historical figure is essential. Sharing former New Agers testimonies can also be eye-opening for them.
Supporting converts
Many flee witchcraft after experiencing demonic deception or attack, discovering that calling upon the Name of Jesus banishes them. Such encounters with Christ’s power often leads to salvation. As new believers transition, they may face spiritual warfare. In Acts 19:19, new Christians renounced their past, burning their occult books.
Deliverance ministry is crucial for those leaving witchcraft, which can be deeply destructive. My own mother, a psychic medium, tragically committed suicide due to a lack of local deliverance ministries. Over 30 years, I’ve heard similar stories worldwide but also countless testimonies of Christ’s freedom from demonic oppression through deliverance ministries.
Former occultists often become powerful witnesses, having seen spiritual darkness defeated firsthand. Many are called into healing and deliverance ministries. Those Christ set free don’t fear what they saw Him conquer. I’ve seen this repeatedly in my own ministry and ministries of others.
Testimonies like Alex’s remind us to stay vigilant, guarding against end‑times deception, while rejoicing as Jesus calls many more from darkness into His glorious light. These are powerful examples of God’s grace, reality of spiritual warfare, and transforming love and power of Jesus. Let’s pray for more!
