The latest release from KXC Church and Christian singer-songwriter Folabi Nuel is a powerful reminder of the ultimate sacrifice Jesus made for us.

KXC Church in London’s King’s Cross is a growing and vibrant church with a vision to serve God’s purpose to make all things new. Its talented worship team have been busy writing and recording congregational worship songs in recent years.

Their latest offering, ‘Forever we will thank you for the cross’ is a journey through Christ’s death and resurrection.

Nigerian gospel artist Folabi Nuel and KXC worship leader Rich di Castiglione (Dicas) met at a writing camp, where they wrote this Easter-themed song with singer-songwriter Jemimah Nash. The trio describe the five-minute mid-tempo track as a call to the Church to point back to the heart of the Christian faith – our crucified and risen Lord. They also wanted the song to be accessible in its lyricism and melody, and they’ve succeeded in both areas.

The track begins by detailing Christ’s sufferings: “The pain that you endured / Your twisted crown of thorns”. Verse two describes how Jesus surrendered to death and “a tomb for all our sin”. Verse three celebrates the resurrection and the Kingship of Jesus. It concludes with an encouragement to walk by faith.

The rousing chorus of “What a victory!” gives Christians language to be thankful for everything God has done while the song’s final line “I’m taking up my cross” is a powerful reminder that God sends us out to be a light in dark places.

There’s also a helpful reference to the practical implications of Christ’s sacrifice for every believer. The line “My life is not my own” highlights the duty we each carry to spread God’s love to all. The song emphasises the relational aspect of our faith, as Dicas explains: “Every time we come to church, or in our quiet times, we are continuing a conversation with a living person. We can come to Christ in relationship; it’s not a one-sided transaction but an open exchange.”

Although recorded with a full band, ‘Forever we will thank you for the cross’ translates easily into a more stripped back but equally powerful acoustic arrangement. This means the song has the potential to be a blessing to congregations of all sizes and musical abilities. I pray it encourages you in your worship and devotion.
