Over 19 million young people visit Mallorca every year, often with the intention of partying hard. But 20-year-old Charlie McCarthy went with a different goal: to share the gospel with his peers on Magaluf’s infamous strip

In a place where there is so much darkness, Reach Mallorca’s goal is to spread the light of Christ into party zones often saturated with sex, drugs and alcohol. It all started in 2013, when a group of young people came up with the idea of going on a mission trip to a German-speaking holiday destination, where people had more time to think about life’s big questions.

A small group headed out to the German party zone of Mallorca, and the Ballermann mission was born. Each year it grew and, each year, people who planned to go to Mallorca to party gave their lives to Christ.

I didn’t know any of the people I helped. I simply showed them love and didn’t judge them - just like Jesus did for me

Every year, the number of missionaries grew, too, and in 2025, more than 350 young believers gave up their summer holiday to fly to Mallorca and help spread the gospel. Now, Reach Mallorca run outreaches all over the island.

For the second year in a row, I headed out to join the team. I have a huge heart to share Christ’s love with those on the island, knowing that so many of them are just like my friends back home, or the people I went to school with. They’re partying hard, but I want them to know about the good news of Jesus.

Love wins

In Magaluf, love is an anomaly. Beneath the surface of the drinking, sex and party lifestyle, people are often going through far deeper challenges. That is why I feel called to go out into the craziness of the strip and simply show people God’s love in action.

At 9pm, we would head out and start the outreach. We’d pair up with another person and simply look for people to have a conversation with. With a big smile on my face, I’d often start with a compliment: “I like your moustache!” It was crazy how the Lord guided us and brought about opportunities to chat to people.

For seven nights, we went out on the streets and, on six of those, I had conversations with people that were over an hour long! On four different occasions, we were interrupted by people wanting to speak about the challenges they were facing.

One night, I approached two Irish lads on the beach and asked how their holiday was going. This simple start led me to share my testimony and tell them how much God loves them and wants know them. One lad burst into tears, and told me that his grandma was very sick, and likely to die very soon. He said that she was a Christian, and would have loved me sharing the gospel with him.

He said that he knew it wasn’t a coincidence we had sat down with them and showed them love. We prayed for them, and for his grandma. Reflecting on this precious conversation, I realised that God uses us at the perfect time in a scenario like this. He had been preparing that young man’s heart to hear the gospel in Magaluf that night.

A helping hand

Street Angels Mallorca is run by a lovely Christian lady called Sarah. She lives and works in Mallorca and, at night, she takes on the strip of Magaluf from 1am until 4am. The goal is to show God’s love to those who need help. This can include so many things: giving someone water because they have had too much to drink, accompanying them back to their hotel if they have lost their friends or even calling an ambulance if someone is seriously ill. It can be providing a listening ear, praying or simply being a light in the darkness.

One night when I was out with the Street Angels in Magaluf, we were approached by two young Italians, asking for help as their friend’s drink had been spiked. The young man looked pale and dizzy, and was unable to stand, so we slowly walked him back to his hotel, supporting him all the way. This poor young lad went out for a fun night with his friends, but after only three drinks, he could hardly stand. He was so grateful that we stopped to help him and showed him kindness.

In just five nights on the strip, my team helped more than 30 people, taking more than ten back to their hotels. It’s a very humbling experience. I feel truly blessed that the Lord would use someone like me to help people and show them love. Street Angels is a great picture of what Christ has done for us: I didn’t know any of the people I helped. I simply went out, showed them love and didn’t judge them - just like Jesus did for me.

Transforming hope

In all we do in Mallorca, our aim is never to make people feel bad about themselves, but simply to say: “We know a God who has transformed our lives. He can do the same for you, too.” All of the young people who go, including myself, go back to our own towns, villages or cities with a fire in our hearts, equipped and ready to share the gospel.

From people getting baptised to those hearing the gospel story for the first time, you really see the impact that Reach Mallorca has. When 350 young people trust God and say: “Lord, please bring us conversions”, God does something.

God is changing lives in Magaluf, and I feel so blessed to be a part of that. Please pray for the mission of Reach Mallorca, especially for more people to join the Magaluf outreach team.

God is good all the time.
