Representatives of Palestinian churches, and charities including Amos Trust and Embrace the Middle East launched Time for Action, a British response to the Kairos Palestine document (which called on the world’s Christians to stand with Palestinians against Israeli occupation) at the Greenbelt festival in August.

Panel members at the document launch likened the struggle of the Palestinian people to the struggle against apartheid and called on British churches to campaign together for a just peace in Israel-Palestine. The International Christian Embassy Jerusalem (UK) called the Kairos initiative ‘blatantly anti-Israel’, saying: ‘Israel is in existence because of the mandate of the Bible, the Palestinians’ mandate is the Koran.’ Sami Awad, executive director of Holy Land Trust said: ‘For me, as a Palestinian Christian, Kairos Palestine is one of the strongest, most powerful documents written by the Palestinian Christian Church.’
