Life in Communist Albania was pretty much as grim as it can get. Atheism was in full flow and the Party had control of everything. But this inspiring book tells a great story of how captain Berti Dosti, state eavesdropper and communications expert, one day heard a Christian broadcast and had his life changed forever. He went on to head up churches and bring the gospel to his country. God’s Secret Listener is written by a journalist and so has a rather interesting structure and style. There’s lots of intrigue and suspense and the characters are drawn with depth and sympathy and a touch of humour. The amazing ‘coincidences’ that happen along the way really show how God is a creative project manager and one who won’t be thwarted.

For a snapshot of the Cold War Europe and a warm-hearted God, this is hard to beat. A wonderful testimony.
