Every day, new images emerge from Gaza that are difficult to comprehend. Homes reduced to rubble. Parents searching for food. Hospitals struggling to care for the sick and injured. Children growing up surrounded by fear and uncertainty. It can leave us feeling overwhelmed.
As Christians, we may wonder what difference we can possibly make when the need feels so immense. Yet throughout Scripture, God repeatedly calls his people not to turn away from suffering, but to respond with compassion, generosity and practical love.
Right now, that call feels especially urgent
Among the millions affected by the conflict are ordinary families simply trying to survive.
Mothers and fathers who want nothing more than to keep their children safe. Elderly people without access to essential healthcare. Babies born into circumstances no child should ever experience.
One of these mothers is Noor
Noor went into labour with her youngest daughter while bombs fell around her. During the conflict, her husband, who depended on regular dialysis treatment, died in hospital. She returned home with her children to empty cupboards. Then, just three days later, the house next door was bombed.
“We lived for five days without food or water, not even milk for my baby,” she recalls.
Noor’s story is heartbreaking. Sadly, it is not unique. Across Gaza, countless families are facing desperate shortages of food, clean water, medical care and basic necessities.
While the challenges are enormous, hope is still being carried into communities through local Christians and trusted humanitarian partners who continue serving their neighbours with courage, faith and compassion.
BMS World Mission is supporting this vital relief work through its Gaza Emergency Appeal.
Gifts to the appeal will help provide emergency food assistance, support lifesaving medical care through a Christian hospital and improve living conditions for vulnerable families whose homes have been damaged or destroyed.
Every act of generosity becomes a practical expression of Christ’s love for people living through unimaginable circumstances.
Our response as Christians is not driven by politics or by taking sides. It is driven by the example of Jesus, who consistently drew near to those who were suffering and called his followers to do likewise.
The apostle John asks a searching question: “If anyone has material possessions and sees a brother or sister in need but has no pity on them, how can the love of God be in that person?” (1 John 3:17)
The needs in Gaza are immense, but they are not beyond God’s compassion. And they are not beyond the reach of his Church when believers choose to act together.
Please continue to pray for peace, for comfort for those who mourn, for protection over those providing aid and for wisdom for leaders seeking a just and lasting future.
