The Ministry Experience Scheme (MES) is an opportunity that enables people to discern their vocation whilst discovering their unique gifts and skills. It is free to do with accommodation and expenses provided. There are locations across England and Europe starting in September 2025.
Every person’s year looks different but is formed around practical experience, such as chaplaincy; social justice ministry; preaching; digital media; pastoral visiting; students; and kids and youth work – there is also the opportunity to do Future Youth which is specifically designed around kids and youth ministry.
The year includes theological study which can be tailored to you - it doesn’t matter if you have no prior experience or already have a theology degree; and Future Youth participants are part of a national training programme which includes residentials.

“The opportunity to learn more about Jesus with like-minded people is what really drew me to MES. In world full of people that have very different beliefs it is not easy to know where your community is there for you. I’m looking forward to growing in Christ but also in character and finding my identity.” (Nicole).
“I was drawn to MES because of the chance it provides to strengthen my faith while actively engaging with a community. My goal is to deepen my spirituality through this experience and acquire hands on skills in church related activities while also gaining an insight into Gods purpose, for me. I’m really looking forward to getting involved in practical ministry work and serving in a community where I can both give and grow. This is something that truly excites me.” (Victor).
1 in 3 participants go on to train for ordination; for others it is step towards another church ministry; or they say they have a clearer sense of God’s purpose as disciples in society and the workplace.
