July-Review-Smugge

The Diary of Isabella M Smugge is a book best described as ‘Christian chicklit’, a relatively unexplored genre.

In the opening pages, social media influencer and socialite Isabella tells the story of her move from London to the countryside, determined to bring some relatability to her luxury lifestyle.

Much of the story is unrealistic and the character’s interactions feel slightly forced, but Smugge’s steadily increasing involvement with the church feels real. She expects disdain from the small group of Christian women she meets and is surprised when she receives compassion and companionship. She doesn’t immediately convert but the way she turns to God in her hour of need is surprisingly heartwarming.

The Diary of Isabella M Smugge is a perfectly fluffy summer beach read with a Christian twist.
