This Christian Aid Week, we stand with vulnerable communities in Malawi. Children are being robbed of their dreams of a better future by the global food crisis and climate change.

Christian Aid Week is a joyful celebration of our determination to change the world, through our gifts, prayers and actions. The week was founded by the church, for the church, to fight for dignity, equality and justice.

Your support this Christian Aid Week could help farmers in Malawi plant better seeds, secure a fairer price for their crops, and build happier futures for their children.

Soaring costs of food and essentials are crushing dreams, keeping people here and around the world in desperate poverty.

Families in Malawi are paying the price of the global crisis. Food, fuel, fertiliser and school fees have doubled in price in the last 12 months. And hard-working famers are struggling to survive, seeing their harvests fail as the climate crisis brings increasingly erratic weather.

Esther’s happy future

Esther Saizi is growing a miracle crop on her farm – pigeon peas. Bursting with life-changing goodness, pigeon peas are a drought-resistant, soil-revitalising, high-protein, low cost, delicious crop.

With these truly special peas, Esther can bake delicious bread, support her daughter’s dreams, and give her adorable little grandsons a happy future, full of love and laughter. But she wasn’t always able to support her family so easily.

For 10 years, Esther could never secure a fair price for her crop and was robbed last year when Tropical Storm Ana washed away her crops. She felt desperate. But when Esther joined a pigeon pea programme run by a Christian Aid partner, Nandolo Farmers Association, and started selling as part of a cooperative, she was able to earn much more.

‘I was able to sell the pigeon peas at a better price with a better market. It provided financial stability’

Esther Saizi

With the money Esther has made, she is now able to make her family’s dreams come true.
