America's most religious president yet

When I listened to Donald J Trump speak at his inauguration earlier this year, I was impressed by the amount of spiritual terminology he used. The only problem was that the most fervently religious language in his speech wasn’t directed towards God (and Jesus never got a mention) but towards an altogether different deity – the United States of America.

Trump spoke of dreams, visions and a new national pride to “lift our sights and heal our divisions”. Without a hint of irony, and with his religious advisors...
