Fake News vs Good News

There are currently 16 million people on the brink of starvation across East Africa as famine-like conditions rage across Somalia, Ethiopia, South Sudan, Kenya, Sudan, as well as Nigeria and neighbouring Yemen. The UN has described the current situation as the worst humanitarian crisis since the Second World War and the Disasters Emergency Committee has launched an urgent appeal.

Yet, as I write, this impending disaster is hardly registering on news bulletins, and hasn’t appeared anywhere in my social media feed. Instead we continue...
