This is a children’s worship album comprising 19 well-written and capably produced tracks from the creators of the wonderful children’s song, ‘Our God is a Great Big God’. The album is wide-ranging and features a variety of musical styles.
The opening track, ‘Receive Our Song’, kicks along in a country rock style and has a great vibe to it, while ‘God is on My Side’ reminds me of the pop group McBusted, with its driving guitars and high-energy performance. The lyrics are good and seek to affirm children, confirming that their identity is rooted firmly in God.
If there is a low point, it is the spoken sections in ‘We All Need Jesus’, where the narrator sounds a lot like comedian Jack Dee. Still, you can’t fault the sentiment of the song or the hearts behind this album.
This is an action-packed, energy-fuelled record, and I will be making sure my six-year-old son hears it. You can’t say fairer than that.
