The Temple Institute says a future temple must be cleansed with water mixed with the ashes of a pure red heifer. They also say raising a ‘perfect red heifer for the fulfilment of Numbers chapter 19’ is a ‘daunting task’.
‘In order for a heifer to be considered kosher for the biblical use, it must literally be raised from birth under specific circumstances.
‘With Torah knowledge and advanced science, the Temple Institute has now begun to actively pursue this commandment.’
The group has launched a crowdfunding appeal in order to finance the project to produce a red heifer. $40,000 has been raised through IndieGoGo so far. The target is $125,000. It is thought that a number of evangelical Christians who believe the rebuilding of a temple is a necessary precursor to the return of Christ are supporting the campaign.
