I have been praying for some time for a Christian singer songwriter whose voice has actually broken. Oh what a relief, then, to hear Chris McClarney’s seasoned and chocolate brown voice that does ample justice to a fresh collection of songs.
What impresses most is the way this manages to sound contemporary and well-produced. ‘Your Love Never Fails’ is a classic in the making and this treatment combines jangling guitars, subtle Hammond sounds and that voice. The real revelation is McClarney’s reworking of old-standard ‘Blessed Assurance’ with sparse arrangements, clever instrumentation and subdued passion. I thoroughly recommend that you become acquainted with Chris McClarney.
HIGH: ‘Blessed Assurance’ is ace.
LOW: Some of the other tracks lack spark.
