1. Guardians of Ancora

Guardians of Ancora is a new Bible based platform game by Scripture Union aimed at 9-11 year olds (though it's also very playable for teenagers). Running across rooftops and ship masts and sliding down zip wires, you encounter stories about Jesus which helps to illuminate the spire at the centre of Ancora. The app is regularly updated with new stories, and there are no nasty In-App Purchases to worry about!

2. David vs Goliath

David vs Goliath is the first instalment of a series of Bible based apps from US company Righteous Tales. As the title suggests, the game immerses you in the much loved story of David and Goliath, and contains a number of fun mini games (you can help David fight a lion and choose which stones to fight the giant with). This is a fun game for 9-11 year olds, though my 7 year old also enjoyed it. Be aware there are some in-app purchases.

3. Granny's Bible Dojo

Granny's Bible Dojo describes itself as a 'fast action board crackin' game' which uses encourages kids to memorise the books of the Bible. Granny guides you through the books in bite-size chunks, then invites you to recall them in the correct order by karate chopping them. Not as fun as other games, but a great way for kids to learn the books of the Bible.

4. The Bible App for Kids

The Bible App for Kids is made by the same people who make the ever-popular YouVersion Bible app. In my mind this is the best Bible app for the under 7s, though older children will enjoy it too. Kids will love the narrator-led Gospel-centred stories. There are plenty of hidden gems for the kids to discover and your child can read along on screen if they wish.

5. Bible Buddies

Bible Buddies is terrific fun for all ages. The app provides you with cut-out figures and backdrops from your favourite Bible stories. Once you've chosen your characters you can move them around on screen and record your own own voice-overs. The finished video can be played back or downloaded onto the Camera Roll.
